Hopefully Candice Olsen would be proud.

A while back I said I'd post pictures of my newly-painted room, so.... here they are.

It took me about four and a half hours to do the first coat, and then I did two coats on the following day. I lovvvvve the color. My mom was concerned that it would come out too dark, especially considering it's a very small room, but I think the blue is cheerful enough (Cheerful blue? Is there such a thing?) to keep the room from being depressing. I also left the woodwork white.

Anywayyyyy... I'm working on my Tohru Scarf... I'm a bit over halfway through the orange stripe. I really love this yarn. It's cotton (no scratchy wool around MY neck, thank you) and the colors are just exactly what I wanted. Wheeee!!

I have two days off. However, I have to drive to Ithaca anyway for an interview. Yes, pretty soon I will likely be a temp no longer. I still don't know how I feel about this. I have to decide whether I have enough money to get my own place, because I refuse to drive a 45 minute commute in the middle of winter. I don't like the city in general, but I suppose if I lived in one of the apartment complexes up by the mall, it wouldn't be too bad. *shrug*

Ah well. My mission for the next two days is to relax and get more sleep. You know your job is affecting your health when everyone's first comment upon seeing you is "Wow, you look tired. Are you ok?" :p

Off to school

Yesterday we took my little brother to college. He's a transfer student, like I was, so he's going in as a junior, but it's still his first time living away from home.

We're nervous... he's thrilled.

We got up around 7:30 and packed everything into the car for our 3 hour drive. I was rather concerned because last time, all four of us spent various parts of the drive being carsick; but this time we had two cars, so everyone was either driving or in the front seat. Despite a rainy start, the weather cleared up for a beautiful sunny day. I spent most of the drive reading Airframe, but also got to chat a bit with Brion, which was fun.

Upon our arrival, Brion and I embarked on a mission to sign him in and find his room. His building is named after Jimi Hendrix, which is neat... but I think they took architectural advice from Hendrix on how to build it. The thing is like a maze. Even after we thought we knew where we were going, we hauled all his plastic bins up to the third floor only to discover we were in the girls' suites, not the guys'. Ah well, live and learn. Once we got in the right place, it didn't take long to bring his stuff in.

Boys pack much lighter than girls.

We made his bed up for him (a moving-into-college tradition) and then the four of us went to Bob Evans for lunch. I had two of the most delicious buttermilk pancakes ever.

After a quick stop into Radio Shack for an ethernet cable (whoops), it was time for Brion to get settled in. There were lots of hugs...

...and kisses...

...and Mom and I managed not to cry too much. After a quick pit stop at the Lucy-Desi Museum in Jamestown, we made the trek home.

Well, Brion, we love you and we already miss you. I'm glad we can talk online. We're all wishing you good luck in your first semester - enjoy college! It's a great adventure, and the time will fly by faster than you'd ever believe. :)

Ahh, craft stuff, how I've missed you...

I'm back again. Not much going on - just work, really. Sadly the most eventful work-related item of the week was that I went to put my hours in, and had no time sheet (online). Had to call Adecco and get it straightened out - so next week's paycheck should be interesting.

I had Saturday off, and took the time to finally do a couple of craft projects I've had in the works for a while.

1) Inspired by the Japanese fashion magazines sent to me by Pinku, I bought this shirt pattern (and bought the fabric, and cut out the pieces) a couple of months ago. The fabric wasn't that fun to work with - bright pink polyester, all stretchy and slippery. I liked how the flowers in the pattern looked like they were falling down into the waistline area, but overall the finished product is just... okay. It was definitely good sewing practice - got to make reinforced armholes and stuff.

2) Dad was asking me to make one of those plastic-bag-holder thingies, so I used the cute kitchen-y remnant from Hancock Fabrics. I really like how this turned out, and will probably be making another one for my parents and taking this one with me when I get my own place (again).

Well, I'm way behind on online stuff... several books behind on my book blog (D will be entertained to hear that I mistakenly typed that as "boob blog") and a couple of entries behind on the IVSM2005 page. Whoops. I am, however, excited that I have finished all the main pieces of the baby cardigan I am making. The sleeves and neckband are the only things left.

Projects for the near future (assuming I survive August as a Verizon employee):
* knitted dishcloths
* knitted digital camera pouch a la Nipperknits
* Tohru scarf, once my yarn arrives. *_*
* socks, attempt #2.

I think that about covers the crafty stuff.
