Ayaka is the younger daughter of the wealthy Kurusugawa family, which owns many companies (most notably Kurusugawa Electronics, which built both Multi [HMX-12] and Serio [HMX-13]). Although they may look somewhat alike, Ayaka is basically everything her sister is not. She is confident, a big arrogant, outgoing, and participates in the very physically demanding hobby of "extreme" martial arts (well, she's an advocate of it; I guess I'm just assuming she participates).

Why do we see so little of her? Ayaka attends Sanyo Girls' School, a private academy. This is why she wears a different uniform than most of the people in the series. The time we see her most is when Aoi is trying to convince everyone of the merits of "extreme fighting" in episode four. Aoi really seems to idolize Ayaka-san.

Ayaka is also close friends (we don't know how close exactly...) with Sakashita Yoshie, the head of Aoi's former dojo (I think Ayaka was also a member of that dojo; another reason I say she participates in martial arts - this is also how Aoi knows her). Yoshie and Ayaka bicker but don't seem to take it too harshly - they are okay with having their differences.
