Hoshina-san shows up right in the first episode. She is the class representative for Second Year, Class B (the same class as Akari and Hiroyuki). Hoshina Tomoko is a quiet, withdrawn, responsible girl from the Osaka area. Due to her parents' recent divorce, Hoshina-san had to move to a new area where she had no friends. In fact, because of her Osaka dialect and her brains, she is the target of the class bully, Okada.

Rather than get defensive, Hoshina quietly submits to the torment of her fellow classmates, becoming even more withdrawn. She shoulders more than her share of class projects and picks up the slack when others don't do their job properly. Due to this treatment and her reserved nature, she has no close friends - I suppose this is why even I call her "Hoshina-san" rather than "Tomoko."

All of this begins to change when Hoshina works on the class's booth for the school festival. During this time she finally finds people willing to help her rather than slack off - Hiroyuki and Akari. ^_^ Thanks to the Akari Super Powers (niceness and patience), Hoshina-san is able to open up a bit and accept the pair's friendship.
